The Dirty Guv’nahs have just wrapped up recording sessions in Nashville for their upcoming, still-untitled new album, due out sometime this year.

“There are some little things we’ve got to do—adding shakers and tambourines and background vocals,” says singer James Trimble. “But we’ll be doing that in Knoxville. I’d say it’s 93 percent done. It’s one of those things, you get all the guitars and stuff done, and you think, ‘Okay, I hope it’s good enough,’ but the more you listen, the more you start to worry.”

The band is funding the recording of the follow-up to 2010’s Youth is in Our Blood with more than $20,000 raised through a Kickstarter campaign. (An additional $10,000 over the band’s initial goal will be applied to promotion and publicity.) The Guv’nahs hit the road this weekend for nine days, with stops in Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., Houston, Austin, Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville.

“It’ll be good to get out from under the microscope,” Trimble says. “Go out and play and then come back and listen to those songs again with fresh ears.”
