The winter doldrums are over and local musicians are coming out from hibernation. Three new local releases highlight the upcoming music calendar, starting with pop-punk five-piece On My Honor. The band’s new EP, Nature and Nurture, will be available on vinyl (from Little Heart Records) at their show at the Valarium with Your Favorite Hero, A Hero Remains, the Bad Dudes, and 2-15 on Friday, Feb. 10. The show is all ages; admission is $5-$10, and doors open at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, hippie-about-town Mac Comer and his backing band, the Coo Cool Kidders, celebrate Comer’s new CD, Hyperbolic Length, with a show at the Square Room. The concert also commemorates Comer’s 10th anniversary making music in Knoxville. The show starts at 9 p.m. Admission is $10/$12 at the door and includes a copy of the new disc.

The same night, former Medford’s Black Record Collection guitarist, singer, and songwriter Michael Davis debuts his long-gestating new project, Michael Davis and the Teleplows, at the Well in Bearden. The new band—which features Davis on vocals, banjo, and guitar; bassist Grant Parker; drummer Doug Guthrie; and guitarist/singer Shawna Cyphers—expands on MBRC’s acoustic folk-country for a fully electrified country-rock sound. The Teleplows play with opening acts the Galt Line and Dixie Ghost. Music starts at 10 p.m. and admission is $5; 21 and up.

On the horizon, singer/guitarist Kevin Hyfantis will release his first solo CD, titled simply Hyfantis, next week. The official release show will be held at Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria on Friday, Feb. 17, at 10 p.m.
